Daniele Rustioni

Daniele Rustioni, recently awarded “Best Conductor of the Year” at the International Opera Awards 2022, is one of the most compelling conductors of both opera and symphonic works of his generation.

Music Director of Opéra National de Lyon since September 2017, he has been Music Director of the Ulster Orchestra since the 2022/23 season. In September 2021 he began his tenure as Principal Guest Conductor of the Bavarian State Opera. Daniele Rustioni is also Conductor Emeritus of the Orchestra della Toscana, where he was Music Director between 2014 and 2020.

In 2022 he made his debut with the Philadelphia Orchestra, having already conducted all major Italian symphony orchestras, and international orchestras such as the London Philharmonic, City of Birmingham Symphony, Hallé and Danish National Symphony orchestras. He made his Carnegie Hall debut in 2023 with the MET Orchestra.

As Music Director of the Opéra National de Lyon, Rustioni conducts two new productions each season in addition to symphonic programmes and is a regular guest of the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in Paris and the Aix-en-Provence Summer Festival.

Rustioni has been engaged by all major international opera houses including La Scala, Opernhaus Zürich, Opéra Bastille Paris, Royal Opera House Covent Garden London, and the MET.

He has made regular appearances in Japan since his debut at the Nikkikai Opera in 2014, including performances with the Kyushu Symphony Orchestra and Tokyo Symphony Orchestra. In 2018, he returned for concerts with the Osaka Philharmonic and Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra.

Rustioni’s extensive and varied discography includes Bellini’s Adelson e Salvini for Opera Rara with BBC Symphony Orchestra and Wolf-Ferrari’s Violin Concerto on Deutsche Grammophon with Francesca Dego and City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. The highly successful production of The Golden Cockerel with the Opéra National de Lyon staged has recently been released on DVD by Naxos.
